Here is another high-end business laptop from Dell – the Latitude E4200. This notebook comes in high altitude when it comes to comfort, security, and high-tech features.

The Latitude E4200 is a huge break for Dell as it comes huge having a measure of 11.46 inches x 8.03 inches x 0.78 inch (291mm x 204mm x 19.95mm) in its dimension and weighs only about 2.6lbs. This means that this mega-laptop is a slim fit one and indeed a portable machine. What is more appealing with this laptop is that it doesn’t compromise any of its advanced features just to give way to transportability, except for one – the optical drive. Even so, it houses the high-tech features that only few of its competitors can go side by side with.

The 12.1-inch screen of the Latitude E4200 has a fair resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It incorporates a light sensor which enables the notebook to adjust the illumination of the screen with respect to the environment you are in. This might be helpful in saving energy but sometimes could be annoying for it can deteriorate the quality of images it projects.

Directly below the screen is the keyboard that is excellently placed by Dell to this business laptop. It maximizes the space provided by the notebook thus giving the keycaps the required gaps for excellent navigation of the fingers throughout the keyboard. The trackpad is getting enough attention even if it appears nothing unusual. In actual fact, Dell just maintained the sensitivity of their touchpads with the Latitude series.

The power of this laptop is not that impressive. With its Intel Core 2 Duo U9400 clicking at 1.4GHz and 2GB of DDR3 RAM, it can run fast but has its limitations that could not satisfy the owner. Moreover, it has an extendable 64GB solid state drive. But all of these features can be upgraded thus making it faster and more efficient when it comes to processing bulks of data and volumes of information.

If we have to take a complete view of the sides, we can find the availability of extending the connections and ports of this business laptop. On the left side, we can find the VGA output, the USB/eSATA port, the microphone jack, the headphone jack, ExpressCard, and a SmartCard reader. On the opposite side, we can see the Ethernet, another USB port, FireWire, memory card reader, and a wireless radio switch. On the rear part, we can possibly have the power input and the lock slot. This leaves us the front side empty.

All in all, Dell’s Latitude E4200 is an elegant business laptop which can cater the needs and serve the purpose for its users. It does have the power and functionality that is coupled with a battery life of five hours, this might be enough for some business professionals but for some, it is a drought. The screen could also be a plus factor as well as the keyboard but the downside doesn’t justify the price tag which is starting at $1,719.

The Precision M6400 is one of the most expensive laptop ever built by Dell. Of course, as expected with its price, its features would be grandeur. As the common saying goes, “quality comes with a high price.”

First of all, the Dell’s Precision M6400 is ISV-certified business laptop. This is because the said notebook has undergone extreme tests for durability and sustainability when utilized heavily by the users. Even in running software applications, this can run multiple windows – may it be for word processing, web browsing, or for engineering designs.

These capabilities are made possible with the 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad Core QX9300 mobile processor which is working with a monstrous 8GB of DDR3 RAM. Moreover, it has a 7,200rpm 320GB Western Digital hard disk. With this incorporated hardware, this laptop might be the fastest notebook in the world today.

This speedy business laptop comes with the nVidia Quadro FX 3700M with 1GB of memory that is running with the 17-inch WUXGA screen display. The LED-backlit screen has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,200 pixels. These features have added to the clarity of display even with moving graphics or images.

Meanwhile, the chassis of the Precision M6400 Covet is covered with an aluminum jacket coated with a unique color – the blood orange. This chassis is considered to be strong and tough as it can give full stability with no shaking and no rattling kind of movement you could experience, so to speak. But because of its philosophy in maintaining sturdiness, it weighs at around 9.55lbs. Even so, this is still a portable notebook taking into account its rigid body which can withstand almost all the impacts it can possibly experience. Just don’t mess about this thing using a monster truck.

For other functionalities, its keyboard is well-built and well-designed. The keycaps are built firm and the spacing is perfect for comfort typing. Furthermore, the keys have backlight. The touchpad that comes with the sensitive and smooth surface is a good back-up for the trackpoint.

In general, this road warrior, working beast, and fast-running business laptop is a well-architected notebook. There are almost no issues that are to be raised when it comes to loophole-hunting. With connections, extra ports, and other smart and high-tech features, this laptop can raise its way to the top if we don’t mind the price and its weight. These two factors might be essential though, but try to look again at the safety, comfort, and style features, and you can just say no to this monstrous mobile computing machine.

Technical Specifications:

Processor: 3.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E8500

Memory: 8GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM

Motherboard: Asus P5N-VM WS motherboard

Hard disk drive: 320GB hard disk

Optical drive: DVD-writer

Graphic card: integrated Nvidia Quadro FX 470

Connections and ports: 2 x DVI-I out; ; 4 x USB, 1 x eSATA, 1 x FireWire, PC Card, ExpressCard/54, SmartCard; Bluetooth; 802.11ag + draft-n, Gigabit Ethernet; 2mp webcam, fingerprint reader,TPM module; 8-in-1 card reader; Windows Vista Business 64-bit; 3yr NBD international on-site warranty; 393 x 287 x 42mm (WDH); 4.34kg (5.35kg)

Business laptops are expected to appear elegant, come out sturdy, and likely to perform fast and strong. With Dell’s Precision M4400 laptop, it seems everything is in it. It is fast, secure, and hardworking.

The case of this monster laptop is tough and stable. It provides great protection for the notebook just as the case of other Latitude models do. The covering is not just to defend the hardware inside but also to project a classy impression on onlookers.

Inside the case is a 15.4” WUXGA screen that displays 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution. It is amazingly high compared to its counterparts from other brands. Because of this, it can display great image resolutions even under the blinding glare of sunlight. Viewing your favourite sites and opening windows of your most-used software in different angles is not a problem with this portable computer.

The Precision M4400, as we can see, is a working beast. It can perform well just like the E6500. Some users would even consider it better. This mobile office is a workhorse with its powerful Intel Core 2 Extreme processor that ticks with 3.06GHz. This is why the ability to display of this notebook is extremely in high quality performance. Aside from its powerful brains, it has an nVidia Quadro FX 770M which can provide neat graphical display. This is significant when you are into the architectural or building design business or if you are working as a design engineer which makes you more prone to CAD or design software utilization. Considering these high-end features plus an 8GB of DDR3 RAM, there’s nothing more to ask.

Its keyboard has the usual size, the typical keyboard referred by touch typists. With this, unlike any other business laptops, there’s a minimal need for familiarization in exploiting it. Such conditions can only be applicable on rare cases such as the spacebar which is not situated at the center part of the keyboard.

This business laptop extends its connections and ports. On the left corner, it is where you can find the Kensington Lock, two USB ports, VGA output, SD card reader and ExpressCard. On the right side, you can have the PCMCIA, DVD Drive, SmartCard, FireWire, microphone jack, speaker or headphone jack, and another two USB ports. On the rear side, there’s the local area network (LAN), the display port, and the power connector. Meanwhile, there’s nothing you can find in the front part of the notebook.

In summary, Dell has introduced to us another top of the class business laptop. It is a working machine with so much high-end features to offer. It can do well with the task it assigns to perform. In fact, it can finish its job quickly as it houses perfect combinations of its hardware for data processing.

Technical Specifications:

Display: 15.4″ TN TFT LCD with Dual-CCFL Backlight (matte)

Aspect Ratio: 16:10

Resolution: 1920 x 1200

GPU: NVIDIA Quadro FX 770M 512MB (Driver 7.15.11.7607)

CPU: 2.80GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9600

RAM: 8GB

HDD: 250GB (Seagate ST9250421ASG)

Optical Drive: PLDS DVD+/-RW DU-8A2S

Network: Intel Gigabit Ethernet (82567LM), Intel WiFi AGN (5300)

Operating System: Microsoft Windows Ultimate 64-bit (6.0.6001 SP1)

Dell has come up with a model that makes portability and power work harmoniously. As this business laptop is gaining its popularity among business professionals, it is also earning respect from its current users.

With its magnesium alloy material that is used in its chassis, the Dell Precision M2400 is amazingly light and durable. Considering its build, the covering is likely to project elegance as it is a matte plastic and a metallic screen covering. It is well-groomed the way business gadgets should look like. Aside from its beauty, this notebook has a sturdy look which can let you feel secure in terms of physical deterioration.

Inside the attractive casing is a LED screen that can give quality images. However, there are angles that are not good in viewing your screen specifically in the vertical aspect of changing your view angle. This can give negative impression on the user especially if this laptop is purchased and is used intently for graphic designs.

This superb notebook can offer a lot when it comes to ports and slots. In fact, it caters to additional docking options. If we are to look on all sides, from the left, we can see the VGA output, USB powershare, USB combo port, Kensington lock and the smart card reader. On the opposite side, we can have the FireWire, the Express card slot, another two USB ports, wireless toggle switch, Wi-Fi catcher, microphone jack, headphone jack, and the optical drive. At the front, we can see the 5-in-1 media card reader and the screen latch. At the rear part is where the Ethernet, display port, and the A/C in.

The elegance doesn’t end up in the cover but can be felt also when you are starting to put your fingers on the keyboard. Apart from the perfect spacing since it is a full keyboard size, it is back-lit. This backlight feature might be a little amusing but it is a good feature to add up to.

If you wish you can find brains as element from its beauty, then your wish is now a reality. The Precision M2400 has a 2.80GHz T9600 Intel processor that runs with a 4GB DDR2 RAM. Moreover, it has nVidia Quadro FX graphics chip that is definitely of great help in providing better image displays.

With this business notebook, you can have a possible working time at up to four hours. This is so, provided that you are using minimum number of software applications simultaneously, minimum brightness setup, minimum surfing and graphic or video processing.

All in all, this great product is at its greatest shape. It has the power, it has the beauty, and it has the elegance. It is not just a good business laptop, but one of the best at a current state. Because of its amazing and unique features, this might stay longer in the notebook industry compared to other competitors. With a price that starts from $1,204, this is indeed a best buy.

Dell has produced the Inspiron Mini 12 as one of the most vibrant mobile computers in the market. With design similar to its Mini family, its glossy covering could not escape the fingerprints. But with a simple wipe, its beauty will then be restored. And with its size, it is obviously smaller than some of its direct counterparts. So let’s try to dig out some of its basic and unique features.

The 12-inch screen in Inspiron Mini 12 laptop can offer good viewing for webpages. With its 16:9 aspect ratio for graphic display, scrolling for better views on sites will not be a problem and gives you a smoother line of sight. The display is even higher with its 1280 x 800-pixel resolution. Moreover, the screen has minimal glare even if it is glossy. This is just amazing how Inspiron Mini 12 did it.

This cute laptop can also compete when it comes to its brains. With 1GB of RAM that works with 533MHz Intel Atom Z520 Silverthorne-class processor, it can operate both Windows Vista and Windows XP. Ubuntu is also applicable with this netbook. This business laptop is not that impressive because the RAM could not exceed to 1GB if you want to upgrade it. This can also be an issue when it comes to opening up multiple windows especially if it is inclined with multimedia processing like videos and heavy graphic applications. It can hang, or worse, it will stop working. Also, it has a small 60GB HDD that can handle operating systems in a usual manner but is, of course, pretty limited with memory space.

To be able for a laptop to work better, there should be a working harmony with its power and its battery life. However, this netbook is a little bit short because of its 24Wh battery. This kind of battery can only give at about three hours when utilized with this kind of notebook. This is the reason why it doesn’t appeal to everybody. But on the brighter side, you can change the battery for better and longer performance. This way, this can be utilized effectively by business professionals.

One thing that you have to look is the keyboard. The keys require effort to utilize it fully without any hassles. And because it is minimized to be as compact as possible, the comfort feature of the keyboard is compromised. But if you can be patient enough to learn and adjust to the keyboard, which is incredibly downsized, then you can live with this thing longer than expected. The touchpad design, however, is better than most netbooks. Other than it is sensitive, it is huge for the size of the laptop.

Despite its downside, with its portability, Dell has offered another fine piece at a starting price of $474 on its base package. Now, it’s not only about entertainment and flexibility, but also about affordability.

It’s been a while since Toshiba entered the scene in producing laptops. Since then, they can always make it to the top in customer satisfaction with some of their popular brands. They are also highly rated by writers and editors for computer magazines and websites. And now, with their Portege R600, they can again conquer the heights of popularity and prestige.

Toshiba Portege R600, design wise, is so impressive. It is lightweight. It has a 25.5mm thickest point. It has the strong chassis of the previously released R500. And it looks goods with its classic silver look. It also has a fingerprint-free covering.

Gladly, it found an escape route to defy imperfection which its relative R500 did hold such as poor audio quality and a not-so-imposing graphic display.

Portege R600 owns a 12.1-inch screen which has a 1280×800-pixel resolution. With its matte coating, reflection is not a problem viewing it under an extremely bright venue. It also has a LED-backlit display to maximize clarity of the image projection display. The backlight can also be disabled to alter screen intensity which, in result, can return a good graphic presentation. Moreover, turning off the backlight can save energy and can provide longevity for its working hours. It can even reach 9 to 10 hours of endurance.

The keyboard’s function is not affected by its size adjustment to fit the small business laptop. The keys are well-placed and well-spaced and are very familiar to do away with the user’s ninja way of typing. Adding to its key-bashing comfort is its ability to rebound softly and quickly. The keys are also waterproof but it is definitely not an underwater keyboard. It can only overcome an accidental sprinkling of water. But even then, it’s a lovely feature. The touchpad, however, is large. It is a good thing to utilize for maneuvering the cursor. Also, the touchpad is sensitive. Located below the touchpad, in between the two mouse buttons, is a fingerprint reader. A wise space-saving technique, isn’t it?

This business laptop has a normal mark for its connectivity. It has the usual USB ports (2 of them), an eSATA port, VGA, Ethernet, SD card reader, optical drive, headphone jack and microphone jack.

Meanwhile, Toshiba’s Portege R600 has an Intel Core 2 Duo SU9300 processor that is running at 1.2GHz. With the standard 2GB of RAM, this could run well even when dumped with a loaded office tasks. It is an ideal trait for business laptops to be handy and hardworking.

Portege R600 is, so far, one of the best business laptops Toshiba has ever produced. It is durable, portable, and an accomplished notebook. With long hours of battery life, powerful memory, and good display, it is sensible with a starting price of $2,099.00.

The new Satellite E105 is Toshiba’s release that allows ambidexterity. This notebook has capabilities that can be utilized by people in all walks of life –students, small time business owners, medium-sized entrepreneurs, and moguls.

Satellite E105 has an aluminum body that projects a very clean finish. Nice edges are well-trimmed that looks more exquisite than the previous Toshiba laptops. Thus, its toughness is bold just with a single glance at this box-type notebook. Moreover, this 14-inch business laptop comes with a weight at about 5.1lbs, a very obvious sign for its portability and maneuverability.

Inside the aluminum coat is a 14.1-inch screen that can display a bright and sharp images at a direct face-to-face contact. With its glossy panel, 1280×800-pixel resolution, and backlight, it can surely provide a quality graphics display. But, as usual, glossy screens are prone to poor display when used directly under the rays of the sun. So, outdoor uses for this business laptop are not advisable.

Meanwhile, opposite the screen is a keyboard that also has a backlight. It has multimedia shortcut buttons for immediate access and with keypads so soft and responsive, the type of keys the touch typists would spend their whole life with. The touchpad, which possesses the same color with the palmrest, can be noticed with the line margins that clearly separates it from its surroundings. It is sensitive and is easy to glide on with your fingertips. At the bottom part of the touchpad are the two mouse buttons which are separated by the fingerprint reader.

Back from the outside, we can see a 5-in-1 card reader, the headphone and microphone jacks. On the left side, we have the optical drive, a USB port, and the power jack. On the right side, we have another USB port, an eSATA port, LAN, and HDMI. It also has a jack for radio antenna at the right side.

As for the audio, the built-in speakers of Satellite E105 are behind eight ball. The bass output is not enough. Though it has a radio antenna feature, which is some kind of unique, the signals are clear but the audio performance is poor.

Despite its laidback speaker set-up, this business laptop has powerful capabilities. With its Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor that is running at 2.26GHz, which is working with a 4GB of DDR2 RAM, is a perfect combination for extreme productivity among businessmen. It is unquestionably a diligent business laptop. And for students, this might be a bad topic to discuss, but I can’t help to mention that this notebook is also a good cheat-mate.

While its battery can run the entire unit for about 4.5 hours, it’s positively good life span. But if you are using it in an energy-saving mode, it can give you 2 more labor hours.

Conclusively, this laptop has mobility and power combined. Though you can’t make use of it exceedingly on the outdoors, its size and weight are an apparent characteristics of its portability. With its excellent performance, business people will surely find this equally attractive and college students might see this eventually a ‘useful’ laptop.

Before I forget, you can grab this notebook at a starting rate of $1,199.99.

Sony is giving us another form of notebook that can be added to our option lists for business notebooks. Although Sony and other brand names have released many series intended for business use, the size of the Vaio SR is more likely to be admired by corporations and business individuals.

This 13.3-inch business laptop suffers a misconception. Some would call it a consumer laptop while Sony claims it to be a business laptop. But either way, it can function well with the kind of specs that it holds.

The screen has a 1280×800-pixel resolution with a LED-backlit display that contributes to its superior display. It could have been more interesting if Sony did attach a Blu-ray drive.

However, a commanding Intel Core 2 Duo 45nm processor is running the system. And with a memory up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM that has a speed of 2.93GHz, it is unquestionably a business laptop by nature. It also provides a 250GB hard disk drive that can give us more space for storage.

The keyboard still clings to the trademark of Sony. It has keys that have excellent gaps that contribute well to the comfort of typing. And its grayish aluminum color adds to the beauty of the laptop. Otherwise, only the touch itself can make you feel warm and relaxed.

The touchpad is smooth and sensitive, the way the business laptops must have. The mouse buttons, which are found within the touchpad, also are soft to the fingers. Unlike any other business notebooks, some are too deep, some too hard to press.

This 1-inch thin notebook has the usual connections found in thicker laptops. On the left side of the laptop, we can see the VGA, FireWire, Express slot, headphone jack, and microphone jack. On the right side, you can the optical drive, two USB ports, Ethernet, and a modem. At the front part, we have the wireless switch and the SD card reader. And there’s nothing at the back. But before I forget, there’s no eSATA or HDMI port to be exact.

About the battery life, you can have, most probably, 3.5 hours of work time. But if you are capable of doing things in an energy-saving manner, such as dimmer visuals, you can extend its life. So, you can comply with your casual office works before it dies.

Therefore, there’s no way you can say that this Sony style has no right to perform business tasks. As of portability, it’s thin and light. As of performance, it’s fast and stable. And as of build, it’s strong and stylish.

Anyway, if you want to purchase it for personal or for business use, then you can have it starting at $1,049.99.

The HP Mini 2140 is a portable minicomputer appropriate for mobile professionals. Because of its mobility, most probable users are those who are in the corporate world who travels a lot for business meetings and conferences. A small laptop for a minimum price is an ideal combination for entrepreneurs.

HP’s 10.1-inch notebook has a solid chassis. The plastic casing makes it durable and lighter. It also added beauty from the outside. But what made it really tough is its combination of plastic, aluminum, and magnesium alloy.

While on the inside is a screen with low resolution that intends only for easy viewing especially for small texts. It has only a 1024×576 resolution and could not provide pretty viewing angles. It could emit bright colors but the clarity can only be experienced by the user situated directly in front of it. And worse is the added protection layer. This plastic material is integrated to protect the display but on the contrary, it causes more reflections. So, if you don’t want to experience these bouncing lights and colors while in front of the notebook, you have two options – use it in the dark or wear a pair of sunglasses.

However, Mini 2140’s keyboard is exceptional. At its compact size, it still can provide the usual comfort as normal-sized keyboard can. The spacing of the keys is perfect. The key caps feel great. But its unique touchpad maintains the issue of oddity and awkwardness. The two mouse buttons are placed beside the touchpad, making it a little bit weird for the users. Also, there’s this little button found right beneath the spacebar which acts as a switch for the touchpad. You can turn off your touchpad when you are using the keyboard or a mouse.

HP’s Mini 2140 offers the usual reliable 1.6-GHz Atom N270 processor. Coupled with 1GB of RAM, it provides a customary performance like ordinary laptops do. Enough to make you listen to your music, watch movies and checking emails in a normal mode. But if you are to deal with heavy images, tasks like photo and video editing, this notebook is not the best choice.

Talking about music, the speaker of Mini 2140 is good, which might not be good enough for some MP3 freaks. To enhance its audio quality, headphones are vitally recommended.

One of the issues of last year’s HP Mini-note2133 is its uncontrollable heat. And it seems HP is not taking its notes very well. The keyboard and touchpad can stay relatively cool after a long period of usage but the bottom of this notebook can mount heat at a very high temperature. Its fan might be a little bit too slow or the exhaust might not be that functional. Whatever the cause maybe, HP should do something about this.

If we are to talk about endurance, with its six-cell battery, it can last up to 7 hours – a huge run over the 3-hour average life from typical notebooks. And more, it’s a fast charger at a speed of 90% per 90 minutes of charging.

Mini 2140 is short with ports and connections. On the left corner, we can see VGA out, heat vent, USB 2.0 port, microphone jack, and a headphone jack. On the right corner, we have the ExpressCard slot, SD card reader, USB 2.0 port, Ethernet, power connector, and the security slot. In the front view, we have the power button and the Wi-Fi switch. At the back, we can see nothing but hinges. Did HP forget to incorporate the eSATA port? It could be a big turn on for some.

At a price starting at $499, it can be a good buy with its strong casing, nice keyboard, nice touch for mobility, and long battery life. But with the mounting heat, low resolution, great reflections, and weird mouse buttons, it might be a flop.

Though small for its dimensions 1.08 inches x 5.03 inches x 0.89 inch (2.75cm x 12.78cm x 2.27cm), it is quite thicker than its rivals. There was nothing exhilarating really with its design. It’s the usual Apple laptop, plain and simple on the outside.

On the inside, still, there’s nothing special. The screen is stripped off of backlight that is surely a big help in making the display more clear and vibrant. Though it has a 1280×800 resolution, which is good enough, but the absence of the LED backlight can be really felt. I don’t know why Apple has taken off this important key factor on this laptop.

Anyway, the keyboard is keeping the MacBook on the race track. It has a good spacing and its keypads are soft and silent. So, when hammering a thousand letters, the noise pollution won’t bother you and the comfort of typing makes you feel loose and relaxed. Below it is a touchpad that is working quite well too.

Apple is boarding an NVIDIA 9400M chipset, a fairly good feature for video and image processing. With its 2GB of DDR2 RAM, it runs smooth when utilizing softwares that are of everyday necessity such as office works. Now this is why this notebook can be considered as a business laptop. Moreover, if you can upgrade it to a 4GB of RAM, then it can be more speedy and reliable.

With its connections, the MacBook is a little bit short. The ports are placed on the left side, namely the Kensington lock, FireWire, mini-DVI, Ethernet, two USB ports, and the microphone and headphone jacks. This might be a little thing to consider for some but this scarcity is too big to ignore especially if you are a businessman and a traveller at the same time.

Therefore, the MacBook can be a personal or a business laptop because of its performance. However, its deficiencies are pulling it down. With so many notebooks with the same size and functionality as this Apple’s MacBook, it can fall short to its direct competitors. But, somehow, it can function well with regard to its performance on data processing and its capabilities in terms of doing basic office works. The Macbook may be elegant and has quality performance, but with its massive effect of its slip-ups, it might not be that good for a $999 price.
